About the Artist
Patrick Duke was born in 1984 and raised in Evergreen, Colorado. Growing up in the Rocky Mountains, he developed a love for the outdoors that continues to influence his artwork today. An avid fly-fisherman and outdoorsman, Duke draws upon his time outdoors to provide the inspiration for his landscape paintings. His paintings are depictions of the scenes and phenomena experienced during his many fishing endeavors in the wilderness areas of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West.
Patrick had an early Fine Art influence from his mother, an avid art collector and appreciator. Throughout Grade School, Middle School and into High School, he received many honors and awards in State and National juried exhibitions. It wasn’t until his Junior year of High School, when his art teacher recommended he pursue a Western State College Art Degree, that Duke had considered art as a career path.
In December of 2008 Patrick graduated from Western State College of Colorado, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with an emphasis in Printmaking and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he found himself out of the studio and back in the wilderness working as a Fly-Fishing Guide in the Gunnison Valley. Landscape painting had never appealed to him until he was fortunate enough to spend nearly every waking hour surrounded by the untouched, natural beauty of the place he calls home. After graduation, when Patrick no longer had access to an art studio and printing press, he sought another means of artistic expression. The magnificent images and scenes he witnessed and photographed while working in the outdoors inspired him to explore a new medium, oil painting.
In July of 2011, Patrick had his first solo exhibition featuring his newly found passion of oil painting. He broke the Gunnison Gallery record by selling the most pieces ever sold in a solo exhibition. He was invited to show full time at Gunnison Gallery and continues to be the Gallery's top selling oil painter. His use of perspective, highlights and color palate in his landscapes provoke an emotional response that is becoming world renowned. His new works are eagerly awaited by several collectors.
Primarily a self-taught artist, Patrick’s art education includes his BFA at Western State College, coursework abroad in Florence, Italy at the Santa Reparata International School of Art, and a recent workshop with nationally recognized painter Don Sahli in his hometown of Evergreen, Colorado.
